Eamonn Holmes proposed to Ruth Langsford by text message, with her saying on This Morning “it was the most romantic thing ever”.

The television presenting pair spoke of the time he popped the question whilst discussing a pole which found that half of women were disappointed with how they were proposed to.

Ruth, who is taking part in the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, said how she thought asking her to marry him would have been a daunting task but Eamonn was nothing but confident.

He told her: “I never for one second thought you were going to say no.”

Recalling the happy moment, Ruth said: “Eamonn proposed by text. Now, I know what you are thinking straight away, ‘That doesn’t sound very romantic,’ and yet it was the most romantic thing ever.

“It was very spur of the moment, we were having a day at the races.

“It was very unexpected. Basically he got jealous because there was men flirting with me, that’s what it was.”

Eamonn boasted that his proposal was “text poetry, or even text porn”.

Changing his mind after a telling off from Ruth, he said: “I mean they were very luscious words.”

Eamonn and Ruth married in 2010 and share teenage son Jack.
