Married at first sight – could you marry a complete stranger for a TV show?

A new reality series will see six singles each get married to a complete stranger.

The show, called Married At First Sight, is being called an ‘extreme social experiment’ and will premiere tonight on the FYI Network.

In tonight’s episode the six participants will all meet their future husband or wife for the very first time.

Despite it sounding completely mad, the singles have each been seen by a sexologist, a spiritualist, a psychologist and a sociologist.

After they are married, the couples will live together for a few weeks before they have to decide whether or not to stay together for good.

One of the singles, Jamie Otis from New York, told a US publication that she applied for the show after struggling to find a man who would commit.

She said: “I’m in New York City, I feel like the guys are primarily just players until they’re hitting their late 30s. It’s tough to find guys who are serious.”

All of the people taking part in the show are aged 26-33, and include a make-up artist, a field service technician and a lifeguard.

The sexologist for the show has confirmed in US reports that the marriages are very real and not just for the show.
