Kym Marsh has been quite rightly commended for her recent late miscarriage storyline on Coronation Street - a tragedy that happened in her own life too

We know we may have been going on a bit about Kym Marsh recently and her miscarriage storyline on Coronation Street.

But it's rightly deserved.

There are not many soap actors who would agree to star in a distressing storyline to bring awareness to an issue, when they have themselves gone through it in real life.

Kym did admit that she needed time to think about taking on the storyline before agreeing to it, but ultimately went for it to raise awareness of late miscarriages and educate viewers that bereaved parents are not given a birth certificate when their baby passes away before 24 weeks.

Having lost her own baby, Archie, at 21 weeks in 2009, Kym was forced to relive the harrowing and traumatic experience as her character, Michelle Connor, lost her baby at just over 23 weeks.

Viewers flocked to Twitter to praise Kym for her acting - particularly in the scene where she said goodbye to her baby, who was named Ruari.

At the British Soap Awards 2017 on Saturday, she won the Best Female Dramatic Performance for the scene in which she said goodbye to her baby.

In her beautiful acceptance speech, she dedicated the award to her lost son, leaving viewers in floods of tears.

She said: "Thank you so much, this means so much to me.

"It was perhaps the most difficult thing I've ever had to do in my career. It took us back to places that we never really wanted to go to again, but we did because we wanted to tell the story."

This was in reference to her co-star Simon Gregson, who plays her on-screen husband Steven MacDonald, as he and his wife have both tragically lost many babies.

Kym's moving speech then drew attention to the issue: "As we are sitting here enjoying ourselves, someone is losing their baby. I'm so proud of the show for telling the story in its entirety, reaching out to people and breaking the silence and the taboo."

The audience were shown, many of whom were wiping tears from their eyes.

She thanked her family for their support: "To my partner Matthew, thank you for putting up with my moods. My wonderful children, David, Emily and Polly, you're the reason I smile everyday."

She finished off her speech by saying: "I'd like to dedicate this to my son Archie."

Someone pass the tissues!
