Charlie Hardwick looked back with sadness over her Emmerdale character Val Pollard’s death after filming her final scenes as the actress did not want to leave after 11 years on the soap.
Fans of the ITV show watched with shock as Val was killed off in 2015 and Charlie now says she thought she made the wrong decision at the time with regards to her departure.
Val met a grisly end when a shard of glass from a broken mirror fell on her after a horrendous helicopter crash, and Charlie began to regret her departure as she filmed these scenes.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, she said: “They had to mock up this guillotine and I had to lie in it. It took so long to film that first night that we went over time and to call time on it.

“We tried to film it again the next day. They had to rebuild this prop, find a new location but again, after three times, the guillotine did not work. So I jumped up and said, ‘Right, that’s it. Val dying is not meant to be!’”
While she thinks she made the right career move in the long run, Charlie struggled with her exit at the time and could not watch the episode for quite a while.
She said: “I just couldn’t do it and neither could me mam. We had to wait a while to be honest. I know it was my decision to leave but I just didn’t think I’d go like that.
“I miss the people!”
