Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) have been dogged by tragedy over the past few years.
The vivacious landlady was left shaken and changed when she was raped by Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) in 2014 - and her relationship with Mick was put to the test when he found himself unable to control his temper around his beloved L’s rapist.
However the couple went on to welcome a baby boy, Ollie, and tied the knot in emotionally-charged scenes earlier this year.
And, for a while, we hoped that they may finally get their happily ever after.
Unfortunately, we were VERY wrong.
It all begins on Mother’s Day weekend, when Mick organises a special lunch for his beloved wife, begging wayward daughter Nancy to attend.
She eventually agrees, but tempers soon fly when her brother Lee (Danny-Boy hat chard) drops a shock bombshell - and the two siblings are soon embroiled in a violent argument.
Unfortunately it is their baby brother who is left injured.
Yes, little Ollie Carter is caught up in the fight, and the family are left in shock when the tiny tot is knocked from his highchair to the floor.
Mick soon snaps, smashing a chair and throwing Lee and Nancy out of the pub - but will baby Ollie be okay following his fall?
Danny Dyer, who plays Mick Carter, told The Mirror: "The family are really tested strongly. Me and Kellie, Mick and Linda are tested parenting-wise.
“Something happens with Ollie and we have to deal with it as parents.”
He even hinted that the news could affect his and Linda’s relationship - but refused to confirm whether or not it would spell certain disaster for everyone’s favourite soap couple.
"We can't quite agree on it and it starts to obviously affect our relationship.”
Eep, that doesn’t sound good, does it?
It seems as if the storyline will be an ongoing one for the Carter family - and Danny admitted that he expects EastEnders viewers will be shocked by the events set to transpire.
He added: "This story tests us all on a powerful level and people will be quite shocked.
"It's going to get dark again, of course it's going to get dark again, that is the game we're in."
EastEnders airs these scenes on Monday 7 and 8 March.
