EastEnders viewers will be happy to hear that the loveable Max Branning is returning to the Square this Christmas! Hooray!

Poor Max has had a hard time of it laterly: having been wrongly sent to prison for killing Lucy Beale – aka his daughter's best friend and his secret lover – even though the murderer was in fact her younger brother Bobby Beale.

At first no one knew that Max was innocent but even when the Beale family discovered that Bobby was the real killer (Jane was aware, after all she dumped Lucy in the woods) none of them told the police that Max was innocent. Even his own daughter Lauren discovered the truth that Bobby killed Lucy and she didn't even defend her dad.

After Bobby finally confessed in front of everyone at the Queen Vic that he killed Jane - as well as Lucy - the truth was out and eventually Max was released from prison. We briefly saw Max leave the square in a taxi after posting a note to Lauren and Abi, and a week letter he posted a letter to the Beale family which read: "I will never forget. Max."

And now EastEnders bosses have revealed that Max will finally be back on our screens this Christmas. Jake has taken a break from the show for over a year (14 months to be precise) and we sure have missed him. Now he's returning we're left questioning what exactly he'll do when he sees the Beale family and of course, his daughters.

Things sure have changed since he was a free man in the square: Lauren is now dating Steven Beale, Bobby has of course been arrested and Jane is now in a wheelchair after Bobby hit her with a hockey stick.

But will Max seek revenge on the Beale family? Will he forgive his daughters for their betrayal? Or will all be forgiven and forgotten? We doubt that: after all it is EastEnders and it will be Christmas so we're going to expect an explosive storyline.

Talking about what might be in store for Max in the coming months, Jake said: "Hopefully Max will create some havoc. I'd like to see him go after Ian for setting him up. Hopefully he'll come out of jail looking for revenge."

We would too. We are SO excited to see Max back.
