When one door closes, another opens.
And, while we’re desperately sad to hear that Maddy Hill and Himesh Patel have quit their roles as Nancy Carter and Tamwar Masood, it seems as if the folks at EastEnders have some good news for us, too.
Yup, you guessed it; one of our old favourites is heading BACK to Walford.
Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is set to attend AA meetings in a bid to help fight his alcoholism.
When he’s there, however, he’s immediately distracted by a VERY familiar face; Lorna Cartwright.
Actress Janet Dibley is reportedly returning to Albert Square after quitting the BBC One soap in 1998.
And, in a case of history repeating itself, it seems as if her character is set to get VERY close to Phil as they find themselves leaning upon one another for support during their battle with alcoholism.
A soap insider told The Sun: “Lorna was a great character and viewers loved her, especially her chemistry with Phil.
“No one wanted Janet to leave in 1998 and now the chance to get her back full-time will not be missed.”
As longtime fans of the soap will already know, Phil found himself a kindred spirit in Lorna - although he quickly realised that she wanted much more from him than he could give.
It wasn’t long before Lorna began phoning his then-wife, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and revealing details about their affair - before sending Phil a suicide note after he dumped her.
Unsurprisingly, she was the cause of Kathy and Phil’s marriage breakdown - and it was her suicide attempt in Phil’s bathroom that prevented him from chasing Kathy to the airport when she fled to South Africa.
We wonder if Lorna’s return is going to be just as explosive as her exit all those years ago?
So far, Janet has filmed only a handful of episodes.
