From financial problems to spiralling back into a familiar dark place of depression - EastEnders fave Lee has been telling his loved ones lie after lie after lie this year. And Christmas will definitely not going to be a happy time for the eldest Carter offspring this year, as Lee's depression storyline reaches it's intense climax.

In the week leading up to the big day, we'll see Lee struggle under the pressure of trying to stay true to his lies – especially as the robbery he organised on his own family ends up having severe consequences for some – and will see him taking out another loan to cover the cost of presents for his family.

Still pretending that he's got a high-flying job in Central London, Lee ends up having an emotional heart to heart with his dad Mick.

But what else will he end up confessing? And what will Mick think about his son's actions? Will he struggle to see the bigger picture? Or will Mick blame himself for not paying Lee enough care or attention?

And after Whitney drops a HUGE bombshellover the festive period, will Lee be able to take much more?

EastEnders bosses are keeping extremely quiet about Whitney and Lee's Christmas storyline so you're just going to have to have some patience and watch it all be played out on screen.

A happy ending for Lee Carter is looking less likely by the day, especially as viewers already know that actor Danny-Boy Hatchard will be leaving the soap in the near future - so will we be saying goodbye to him at Christmas or New Year? And under what circumstances?

Opening up to RadioTimes about his harrowing storyline, Danny said:

"His depression is going to escalate, and it's a hard-hitting thing for people to watch. I've had people writing to me saying that the storyline has been unbearable. But that means we're doing our job properly."
