Eastenders fans know that Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid) doesn’t have a great track record of keeping his temper under control.

So an explosive revenge plot seemed inevitable after his beloved boyfriend, Paul Coker, was brutally murdered last month.

The boys came out earlier this year with a steamy kiss at the Old Vic.

Ben declared: "I'm tired of pretending to be something I ain't.

"I want to be with you. I want to be your boyfriend."

Over the past few weeks, Ben has secretly planned to go after Paul’s killers despite agreeing to leave it to the police.

He’s managed to avoid suspicion until his sister Louise (Tilly Keeper) stumbles across something big.

After a tense confrontation, Ben confesses that he and Jay Brown have been on the hunt for the men responsible. But he claims he just wants to “scare” them off.

Unconvinced by Ben’s story, Louise urges Paul’s grandfather Les (Roger Sloman) to get involved.

In a teaser for tonight’s episode, Ben and Les appear to be in a face-off over Ben’s reckless revenge fantasises.

Can Les talk some sense into the justifiably outraged mechanic? Or is Ben hell bent on getting payback for the horrific crime that took his lover away?

Some fans have speculated that Ben may be responsible for Paul's death after his disappearing act when the body was identified.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "So sad to see Paul Coker leave Eastenders but Ben Mitchell is missing, Could he be the killer? #EastEnders."

EastEnders continues tonight on BBC1 at 8pm.
