He said: "For Kat, it is life-changing. For Jessie [Wallace] as an actress, being able to play the storyline we have got coming up after this event is brilliant.

Sadly for viewers, Shane is unsure if the couple will stay together, or if Alfie can cope with the guilt of being responsible to Kat's injuries.

Shane continued: "Sadly, we don't know. It leads up to Christmas and of course the 30th anniversary in February.

"A lot of stories that are now beginning to bubble away at the moment will be resolved then."
