Scott Maslen, who plays grieving Jack Branning in EastEnders, has spoken out about filming the controversial deaths of Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell.

The sisters died on New Year’s Day, after Ronnie had just tied the knot to Jack – for a second time.

The scenes, where Ronnie and Roxy drowned in a hotel swimming pool, were met with a mixed reaction from fans. While some thought the dramatic exit was fitting, others were outraged that the Mitchell sisters had been killed off.

Since the double-whammy of tragedy, viewers have been watching Jack struggle to come to terms with the loss of his wife.

Scott won praise from the fans when he broke down while visiting Ronnie in the Chapel of Rest.

But that’s not to say he hasn’t found the whole thing a bit draining. Scott told OK! Magazine that the storyline had taken its toll on him.

He said: "It’s very draining.

"Even though it’s fiction you still have to take yourself to that dark place in order to do the scenes justice."

When asked how he coped with the devastating scenes, Scott jokingly added: "I certainly drank a lot more beer!"
