EastEnders Samantha Womack: ‘It’s really tiring playing someone so dark and twisted’

Samantha Womack has spoken out about her new comedy role in drama Mount Pleasant, admitting it was a 'breath of fresh air' to play someone happy for a change.

She's famous for playing Ronnie Mitchell in EastEnders and Samantha is the first to admit her character isn't the cheeriest.

The 41-year-old told The Sun: "It's such a breath of fresh air playing someone who isn't quite so dark and twisted! That can be really tiring. Mount Pleasant is an absolute gift."

But fans need't worry: Samantha (and Ronnie) won't be away for too long.

She continued: "Even when I go back to EastEnders, I've had the chance to lighten up a bit. I don't know what Ronnie is up to in EastEnders at the minute.

"I know I murdered someone then I got pregnant. So I've gone off to Spain to lick my wounds. But I'm filming there again now and I'll be back on screen before long.

She admitted she wants more children with husband Mark

"They are so great at giving me time to go off and do other things."

Sam and actor husband Mark Womack have two children together, Benjamin, 12, and nine-year-old Lily, and she confessed she wants more.

She said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed parenthood up until now and I'm looking forward to more of it in the future.

"I find it an absolute privilege to be their mum – I love it."
