As you probably already know, Samantha Womack will be leaving her role as Ronnie Mitchell on EastEnders after almost a decade during the new year.

And be prepared to get your tissues out, because Ronnie and Roxy's exit storyline will 'break your hearts', according to actress Rita Simons (Roxy Mitchell), who is also departing our screens later this year.

After news of their surprise departure surfaced, Samantha took to Twitter to thank fans for their support.

She wrote: "Thank you SO much for all your kinds words about me leaving EE.

"It’s so humbling to know you loved Ronnie as much as I did! Very grateful Xxx."

Rita added: "Thanku guys 4 all the continued love & support u have shown me (and Roxy) over the years. I'm so grateful for my time on EE. Love to u all."

EastEnders are keeping extrememly hush hush about the details surrounding the sisters emotional exit, with producers reportedly filming multiple exits for the pair to throw viewers off the scent - but we do have some exciting news to share about Samantha Womack's brand new role!

Following her departure from the show, Sam has been snapped up to play Morticia Addams in a brand-spanking new musical comedy based on the iconic film The Addams Family.

Could you think of a more appropriate role for Samantha? They're like the same person - just look at those cheekbones!

Sam will be joned by an all-star cast, including actor Cameron Blakely as Morticia's husband Gomez, with former Coronation Street star Les Dennis as Uncle Fester.

The production - co-written by Jersey Boy scribes Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice - will see a grown-up Wednesday fall in love with a man from a respectable family, a secret that only Gomez knows. Gomez then decides to keep the pairing a secret from wife Morticia, only for the drama to reach a crescendo at a family dinner involving Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents.

The UK and Ireland tour of The Addams Family will begin at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh on 20 April 2017.
