Earlier in the week, Ross Kemp tweeted a picture of the script for his return, sending fans into a bit of a frenzy. He tweeted: "Spending time getting ready for Walford".

One fan replied: “Apart from giving birth this is the highlight of my year!! Oops I’m getting married too”.

“Gonna be one of the tv highlights of the year!” another commented.

Many followers were quick to comment that Grant was their favourite EastEnders character and that they can’t wait for his return too.

And last night, the 51 year old took to Twitter once again to let his fans know of his return to the set today, saying: “Heading off to bed now, up early...got Walford work to do tomorrow!”

The actor played the role of Grant Mitchell from 1990-1999 and returned to the series for a short stint in 2005-2006 before his character left the Square to move to Portugal.

Speaking to Radio Times about his return, Ross revealed that he’s more scared about going back to the BBC One soap than when he’s filming one of his many dangerous documentaries.

"I've had sniper rounds go through the wall behind me, and I'm quite cool under fire. I'm good at dealing with things like that. But I'm wetting myself at the thought of going back to EastEnders," he told them.

Ross will be joined by Danniella Westbrook, who is reprising her role as Grant’s sister Sam, as the Mitchell clan reunite for a final farewell to Peggy Mitchell, who will be killed off this Spring.
