One minute it was there, blinking at us happily from our on-screen TV Guide. The next minute, EastEnders was gone completely - leaving many concerned for its wellbeing.

Yup, the popular soap was cancelled last night, following the World Cup clash between Argentina and Switzerland going into extra time.

Tweeting from their official BBC EastEnders account, they explained: "There is no #EastEnders on tonight due to the extended World Cup match – more information to follow soon!"

The match ended 1-0 to Argentina but EastEnders fans just didn't care.

Being as they were on tenterhooks waiting to see whether Hot Dean (aka Shirley's son) and Linda Carter would get it on for her birthday, plenty were left VERY upset by the sudden change in schedule.

Carol McGiffin angrily tweeted: "What????? No sodding #EastEnders until sodding Thursday because of the sodding football???? Sod off sodding BBC!"

Another user added that she was "outraged", while one more, rather panicky sounding user, asked Twitter at large: "WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?! [sic]"

One particularly peeved person added: "Really not happy at all. I spent all day getting excited and it gets cancelled. The BBC needs to sort it out better…"

There were plenty more aggravated comments - some of which are too rude for us to repeat here.

But, if you were one of the people left stressed out by the schedule change, don't worry; there's going to be an extra-special hour-long episode this Thursday.
