Coronation Street New Year spoilers: Dev Alahan betrays the residents

Following Peter's relapse, Daniel is alarmed to find him in Victoria Gardens vomiting blood and quickly rings an ambulance.

As Peter slumps to the ground the paramedics arrive and though they promise to do everything they can, they tell Peter it's likely he's suffering from liver failure.

At the hospital, Peter makes Daniel promise not to tell Ken or Carla as he couldn't handle them seeing him in this sorry state.

But despite Daniel's advice, Adam breaks the news to Barlow patriarch Ken who goes to visit Peter in hospital and is shocked to see how ill he is.

A miserable Peter explains that despite his best effort to beat his demons, years of abuse mean he's damaged his liver beyond repair, and is dying, leaving Ken devastated.

Later on, Daniel pays a visit to the hospital to see Peter but is taken aback to learn that he discharged himself from the ward earlier that day.

After hours of Peter being missing, he finally shows up at home and Carla tears a strip off him for going AWOL and worrying them all.

When Peter mournfully explains his condition and that he couldn't bare facing them and breaking the news, Carla is full of remorse.

Elsewhere, Imran and Toyah are relishing in their new role as foster parents but soon they receive a troubling call from social services.

As they coo and fuss over little Mason, Imran answers the phone and is told that social services are coming to pick him up later today.

From the window of her flat, a grief stricken Leanne watches them resentfully, unaware of the bad news they've just received.

After their emotional goodbye's with baby Mason, Imran soon receives a call offering them another foster baby, but decides it's too soon.

When Imran breaks the news to Toyah that he got an offer but turned it down, she's heartbroken he didn't consult her and it's clear he's messed up.

Over at Speed Daal, Billy and Paul arrive for a meal with Todd to find him sat at the table with a handsome stranger, who he introduces as Ajay, the manager at the helpline.

Todd is turning on the charm offensive and insists Ajay tell them about his job and how it's imperative not to get too involved.

While Todd pretends to be wholly engrossed in Ajay, it's clear both Billy and Paul are feeling uncomfortable about Will as they exchange awkward glances.

After officially deciding to give their marriage another go, Shona tells David she thinks it's time she started back at work.

A tentative Shona floats the idea past Roy who agrees to let her start some shifts back at the café, on the condition they're 'light duties'.

A grateful Shona is thrilled that Roy trusts her back at work. With her relationship and her career back on track, is this the end of Shona's difficulties?

Gary has once again been hauled in for questioning by the police, while they refuse to confirm who shopped him, despite his suspicions.

Back on the Street, Adam arrives at Sarah's and reveals he's got proof she tipped off the police about Gary, and Sarah finally relents, admitting it was time Gary got his comeuppance.

Meanwhile, Debbie is confused about why Gary pulled his sale of the factory at the last minute and Ray is still refusing to tell the truth.

They call a meeting with Nick at the Bistro and offer him another premises for the Underworld Factory at half-rent, leaving Nick torn.

Meanwhile, the residents learn that Ray has been wining and dining Dev and are horrified to learn he's gone behind their back and is considering an offer.

As Abi, Tyrone and Asha stage a boycott of the Kabin, Dev arrives back on the scene and is void of remorse as he details Ray's plan.

But soon Roy turns up and breaks the news that the planning officials have turned down Ray's proposal. As the residents' celebrate their win, Ray insists it's not over yet.

Arthur calls at the cafe with a belated Christmas present for Evelyn. Evelyn gives him short shrift and Arthur heads out deflated, leaving the present on the table.

Asserting that she wants nothing more to do with Arthur, Evelyn picks up the Christmas present and heads out.
