Mick and Linda Carter's marriage has been struggling for quite some time.

Linda battled her alcohol addiction, they left The Vic behind them, Mick's former abuser returned to the Square and Linda has been having an affair with Max Branning.

However this New Year it looks like the much loved couple might finally call it quits as Mick begins to crumble and Linda seals her fate...

Elsewhere Martin is forced to apologise to Ruby Allen about what went down at Christmas and after insisting that everything is fine, she drops a bombshell.

Tina Carter tries to clear her name, Shirley Carter is hurt by her son Mick, and Patrick Trueman and Kim Fox seek Jack Branning's help.

Denise Fox worries about her ex-husband Lucas Johnson being back in the Square, Jay Brown tries to play down his kiss with Honey Mitchell and Stuart Highway finds himself in trouble.

Before any of the above, here's what's happening during Christmas on EastEnders...

Ian continues to live in fear as one of the residents want him dead and it quickly becomes clear that they are still out for blood.

The week begins with Sharon Mitchell and Kathy Beale stunned when a loud bang goes off in The Vic. They fear for the worst and rush over to the pub and when they arrive they spot a petrified Ian hiding under the table.

Ian decides to try and make amends with everyone he's done wrong but things don't go according to plan and by the end of the week the person who wants him dead makes a lethal move against him...

Meanwhile, Max Branning starts sweating when Jack Branning reveals new evidence from Ian's case has arisen, Tina Carter is taken down to the police station and Karen Taylor makes a huge decision this Christmas.

Plus, Honey Mitchell and Jay Brown as they end up kissing, Lucas Johnson returns to Walford with his daughter Chelsea Fox and Stacey Fowler takes a chance and kisses her ex-husband Martin Fowler.

When's EastEnders on TV?

EastEnders is back to airing Mondays to Fridays but will only be 20-minute long episodes.
