Corrie stalwart Michael Le Vell will stay in the soap for another year despite the departure of Debbie Rush who plays his onscreen girlfriend Anna Windass…

He’s been on the cobbles a whopping 34 years and it looks like he’ll be staying on for a while longer. Actor Michael Le Vell, who has played mechanic Kevin Webster since 1983, has reportedly renewed his contract for another year.

The deal, rumoured be worth £250,000, is good news for the 52-year-old actor who has battled drug and alcohol addiction off screen and was arrested in 2011 after allegations of a sex attack on a young girl for which he was subsequently cleared in court.

But while Kevin will be sticking to life on the cobbles, we predict there’s going to be plenty of heartache and drama coming his way as it has been confirmed that Debbie Rush, who plays Kev’s girlfriend, Anna Windass, will be bowing out of the soap early next year.

Kev and Anna have already been through the mill with Kev recently straying and enjoying a fling with Liz’s best mate, maneater Erica Holroyd, played by Claire King. But rather than turf him out, Anna, who had been left badly burned in a crash caused by David Platt, showed amazing forgiveness to the cheating grease-monkey and gave Kev another chance. Although to be honest, we don't know why. We would have shown him the door!

But with Anna’s exit just months away, is Kev going to find himself in the middle of more Windass turmoil and could a clash with evil Phelan be thrown into the mix?

Corrie producer Kate Oates has already said that Anna will bow out with a bang. The long-suffering mum, who has been on the cobbles for almost a decade, has already been blackmailed by her cruel nemesis, Phelan and it’s rumoured he might be the one to finish her off.

Whether Anna lives or dies is a closely guarded secret but it’s guaranteed to be jam-packed with drama. Kate said, “Debbie’s decision to pursue other roles will allow us to play an exciting story for Anna which will see her fighting for her family and tackling old enemies head on.” What will this mean for her partner Kevin? And could he too find himself facing the wrath of scary Phelan?
