Coronation Street's resident teen Bethany Platt will take centre stage over the Christmas period after she gets close to mysterious newcomer Nathan (Christopher Harper), who is much older than her.
The pair meet over the festive period, when Bethany overdoses on diet pills and Nathan comes to her rescue, making sure she gets to hospital. After chatting, Nathan gives Bethany his number and things turn flirty between the pair.
Viewers will see the relationship build up over new year, with the pair sharing a kiss in February. But has Nathan got an ulterior motive? And will vunerable Bethany be taken advantage of, especially as little is known about Nathan and his true intentions - all we know is that he works at a nearby tanning salon.
The storyline couldn't come at a worse time for poor Bethany who's had a series of devasating blows in recent months. From fighting her crush on Gary Windass, falling victim to cruel taunts from bullies calling her 'fat' to turning to dangerous diet pills to try and make everything go away.
And it looks like things are going to get worse before they get better for Bethany as actress Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany, has teased a dark road ahead for her character, insisting that things are going to get worse before they get better.
"On Christmas Day she is desperate. I think that is another turning point for her. This one is dreadful. She turns to the diet pills again.
"On Christmas Day itself, she actually collapses. She's at her lowest point. She seriously believed that Gary was interested her. He is, but not in the way she wants. Gary is in love with Sarah. Bethany actually lets herself into his hotel room."
Even though Bethany has some tough times ahead, we're so pleased that Coronation Street are tackling problems that young people face every single day.
