Coronation Street fans will know that Zeedan Nazir and Rana Habeeb are planning to get married soon and, incredibly, it will be the show's first ever Muslim wedding.

In the past, we've seen EastEnders have a Muslim wedding with the characters Syed and Amira Masood, and Coronation Street had a Hindu wedding between Dev and Sunita Alahan; and now viewers will see Zeedan and Rana get married.

Actor Qasim Akhtar, who plays Zeedan, has spoken about the upcoming wedding: "It's nice to be involved because it's something that's never happened before.

"It’s always nice to show different cultures and ethnicities and the best way to do it is through television, nowadays you see a lot more of it than you would have 20 years ago," she told The Sun.

Will Zeedan and Rana's wedding go ahead?

But there could be a few bumps along the road on the way to the big day because, in upcoming scenes Zeedan calls the wedding off after his grandparents split up. His grandfather Sharif Nazir (who was played by Marc Anwar and was sacked from the show) was having an affair with their family friend Sonia for SEVEN years and after his wife Yasmeen discovered and revealed the affair to the family, the marriage fell apart.

And when Rana's parents arrived on the cobbles and discussed her former partners over the family meal, Zeedan begins to wonder how much he actually knows about Rana and whether the wedding is happening too fast. He later becomes more concerned when discovers that his grandmother Yasmeen has pawned her wedding ring for money towards the wedding.

When Rana confronts Zeedan about what's wrong she's devastated when he reveals he's not sure he can go through with the wedding, especially after witnessing his grandparents' marriage fall apart in front of the whole family.

And actress Bhavna Limbachia, who plays Rana says she doesn't react well to the news: "When Zeedan tells her initially she is absolutely floored. She's so disappointed and emotionally broken by it because she thought that she had found a genuine bond.

"Now she feels like it's all been a lie. She genuinely feels like the relationship is over. She's humiliated."

With the help of Yasmeen and Leanne Battersby they try to save their relationship but will they succeed?
