**WARNING: SPOILERS! **

Coronation Street's young Bethany Platt, who has fallen victim to cruel taunts from bullies calling her 'fat' in the past forcing her to turn to dangerous diet pills, could seriously ‘go off the rails’ soon following a series of devastating blows in recent months – including discovering that her mum Sarah Platt is now dating her crush Gary Windass.

Actress Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany, has teased a dark road ahead for her character, insisting that things are going to get worse before they get better.

Addressing how Bethany would cope if Gary and Sarah officially got together, Lucy said: "I think that would be quite problematic. I think she would go off the rails if that happened.

"Bethany still has feelings for Gary, but she is trying to push them to the side because Sarah wants to do things as a family, with Gary. But the feelings are still there and that may cause problems."

Coronation Street producer Kate Oates was keen to make Bethany’s bullying storyline one of the soap’s main focuses this year and now Lucy has revealed that there is so much more to come.

"With everything that has happened, from Callum to the bullying, I think that her confidence has really been chipped away and it is going to chip away even more.

"I think that she has matured in some ways but she is so vulnerable and lonely now. She feels like she can't speak to anyone about the Gary situation because she doesn't have any friends on the street, and she can't speak to her family because she would be too embarrassed.

"She has grown up as a character; she doesn't want to hurt people now whereas she may have done before when she was a bit gobbier – now she is more vulnerable."

Even though Bethany has some tough times ahead, we're so pleased that Coronation Street are tackling problems that young people face every single day.
