Coronation Street fans have been watching in horror over the past few months as the insidious abuse storyline between Geoff Metcalfe and Yasmeen Nazir intensifies.
And now fans are convinced there’s another even more sinister layer to Geoff’s controlling nature as the spot a clue that Geoff has been poisoning his new wife.
Episodes this week saw Yasmeen complaining of a mysterious stomach ache, and making plans to go and visit the doctor to see what the problem is. When she asks Geoff if he’ll come with her for moral support, Geoff makes up an excuse, as his actual plans are to go and visit an escort.
But the scenes left a sour taste in viewers’ mouths, with some questioning whether there might be more to the story than meets the eye.

As the trip to Spain for Yasmeen's grandson's wedding arrives, Alya quizzes Geoff about the hotel he's supposedly booked but he's evasive.

Soon, Geoff makes out he's having a turn and clutches at his chest, causing a panicked Yasmeen to ring an ambulance, fearful he's having a heart attack.

The paramedics arrive and declare there's nothing wrong with Geoff, but a cautious Yasmeen declares that Geoff is in no fit state to fly and that they'll be cancelling their trip.

Alya and Ryan are suspicious when Geoff refuses to go in for tests, convinced Geoff fakes his heart condition. Alya vows to do some digging.

Later on, Alya confronts Geoff about the "five star hotel" he booked, and faking his heart condition, and Geoff quickly becomes furious.

And when Alya admits she's already been to the police, it's the final straw for Geoff who launches himself at Alya, threatening her.

Just then Yasmeen returns home and is horrified to find Geoff threatening her granddaughter. Geoff assures Yasmeen he would never lie to her, but Yasmeen is having doubts.

Later on when Geoff signs into his laptop, Yasmeen makes a mental note of his password and vows to do some digging of her own.

When Geoff goes for a shower, Yasmeen logs in but soon Geoff comes back downstairs and catches Yasmeen red handed.

Yasmeen confronts Geoff about the fake hotel booking and his emails to escorts, and he finally admits he lies. Furious, Yasmeen declares she's going to Spain alone - but Geoff menacingly tells her she's not going anywhere....

Meanwhile, David tells Gail he's been seeing Alina and a shocked Gail gives him a piece of her mind. As David heads out to drown his sorrows, he's approached by a group of muggers.

Elsewhere, things have gotten tense at Seb and Emma's flat and a frustrated Seb corners Alina in the café and tells her it's time to move out.

“Anyone else think evil Geoff is poisoning Yasmeen,” asked one Twitter used. “Strange she’s got stomachs cramps. And I wouldn’t put it past him."
“Is he poisoning her??,” said another. “I wouldn’t put it past him.. We need Gary to go by there with that large spanner he loves to wave about!! #Geoff #Corrie."
Another wrote, “Is Yasmin being poisoned by Geoff? #Corrie", while one more tweeted, “I swear if Geoff is poisoning her I will scream."

Viewers are right to suspect Geoff after he's pulled a number of horrifying moves on Yasmeen, including convincing her (and everyone else) she has a drink problem, locking her in a box while he goes to the pub, forcing her to cancel a trip to Spain for her grandson’s wedding by faking a heart attack and tricking her into eating her beloved pet chicken Charlotte.
That particular episode sparked 359 Ofcom complaints. Actress Shelley King, who plays Yasmeen, has spoken to Loose Women about filming the scenes under the guidance of domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid, saying, “Things are only going to get worse … it’s been hard.
“There’s only so much a tear stick can do and I don’t like to use them. It has been very difficult.”
