Following the news that Ant McPartlin is divorcing his wife, Lisa Armstrong, it appears that his turbulent year will feature in an upcoming Coronation Street storyline.
Ant, 42, announced the heartbreaking split after speculation that the pair had decided to call it quits. The I'm A Celebrity host checked into rehab last year after becoming addicted to painkillers in a bid to battle his demons.
And now it seems that ITV soap Coronation Street are using his struggle as inspiration for a new storyline.
Actor Danny Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew on the cobbles, explained that viewers will see his character become hooked on morphine during his recovery from falling off of a cliff.
Speaking about how he would portray the difficulties of drug addiction, Danny admitted that he was using Ant's personal journey as inspiration.
He told The Daily Star: "The recent story with Ant showed me the trauma is much higher than expected.
"We are dealing with a real issue. It was an interesting story to research. I hope we manage to get it right."
Talking about the trying time, Ant told The Sun that he 'almost died' after two years of abusing prescription drugs.
“I was at the point where anything — prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs — I would take," Ant explained.
“The doctors told me, ‘You could have killed yourself’. "
