Remember kid’s classic The Worst Witch, set at the fictional Miss Cackle’s Academy For Witches?

It became a classic during its 1998-2001 run and was definitely worth rushing home from school for. We all loved to follow Mildred Hubble on her many adventures…

And now remake is in the works, with Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden playing a fearsome headmistress.

Her character, Miss Pentangle, is the head of a rival school who comes to visit Cackle’s for a spelling bee.

There’s even a snap of Amanda in her plum coloured robes – a stark contrast to the black they wear at Cackles.

Amanda said this of her new role: ‘I’m sure there will be some jokes from my family about me playing a witch but I can’t wait to sit down with them and watch CBBC bring to life the wonderful world of Cackle’s Academy.’

Clare Higgins, who starred in horror Hellraiser, will play the infamous headmistress Miss Cackle and Downton Abbey’s Raquel Cassidy will play Miss Hardbroom – the very scary deputy head.
