We don’t mean to alarm you, but Christmas is approaching FAST. Before you know it, we’ll be dozing off in front of the King’s speech with a belly full of pigs in blankets (or veggie equivalent) and Brussels sprouts after pretending to like the socks that our auntie gave us for the third year in a row.
It’s always fun seeing what our favourite celebs get up to on the big day and feasting our eyes on their over-the-top decorations on social media, but one famous face who will be having a slightly more lowkey Christmas this year is Love Island legend Shaughna Phillips.
It might be the Love Island 2020 star’s first Christmas with daughter Lucia, but Shaughna has revealed she doesn’t want to spoil her baby with too many presents as it’s “muggy”.
Speaking on her podcast Oh Baby!, Shaughna told co-host Holly Connolly, “Do you know what I hate? When people take pictures on Christmas morning of seven thousand presents for their children.
“I just think it's muggy - I would rather spend money on doing something with my daughter than create a spoiled kid that comes down in the morning and counts how many presents they've got to see whether they've got more than the year before. I really, really hope Lucia never ever does that.”
She continued, “And I know it's hard. I remember when I was younger, my mum and dad used to literally drill it in me before we even opened presents in the morning. My dad would be like, you don't know how lucky you are. But it's true. And I think it's really had an impact on me, my mum and dad worked their bums off to give me and my brother the best childhood. And listen, I lived on a council estate, I still live on a council estate, but I just have nothing but happy memories.”
Shaughna held back tears as she thought about how “hard” her parents worked to provide for her and her brother and urged listeners not to try to “keep up with the Joneses”.
“Please don't worry about if people put pictures of thousands of presents online, kids ain't going to remember a stupid toy car that they got. They're going to remember how happy their environment was,” she added.
Shaughna’s comments come after Geordie Shore legend Charlotte Crosby revealed wasn’t buying her daughter Alba Jean any Christmas presents this year as her family were jetting off to the Maldives for the festive period.
