OMG! There’s going to be TWO series of Love Island next year

A winter Love Island? Count us in!

After record-breaking viewing figures, everybody’s favourite dating show Love Island has been commissioned for two series next year, with Caroline Flack hosting both.

Following weeks of rumours, ITV confirmed today that there is going to be a winter Love Island, with the first series of next year’s offerings happening in early 2020 from a brand new villa in South Africa.

Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions at ITV, said: "Off the back of a record-breaking year, we're delighted to be bringing an extra series of our biggest and sunniest show to the 2020 schedule.

_"_Love Island has proven yet again to be the perfect format that engages younger audiences.

"In response to this viewer appetite, a new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location."

ITV’s new project comes as no surprise, as this year, the show broke the six million viewing figure mark for the first time.

A source told The Sun, who originally reported on the news: "ITV bosses have been thrilled with the popularity of the show this year and enjoyed bumper viewing figures so it seemed like a no brainer to fill the January reality TV slot left by Celebrity Big Brother."

They also explained why bosses decided Caroline would host the extra show, adding: "Caroline is now synonymous with the show so it wouldn’t seem right to have anyone else hosting it."
