Ye Olde Bell Spa in Barnby Moor is the perfect spot for a bit of R&R...

Nothing quite beats the feeling of getting out of the city for some serious relaxation. And with scenic views, state-of-the-art spa and mouth-watering meals, Ye Olde Bell in Barnby Moor, ticks all the boxes.

Tucked away in rural Nottinghamshire, the resort is surrounded by lush green fields and is in close distance to Retford train station – making it the perfect location to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

However, be sure to book a taxi beforehand as – being such a small town – it is often difficult to get one upon arrival.

Originally a traditionally English hotel, Ye Olde Bell only installed their spa facilities in June this 2017, meaning that everything is brand spanking new.

Facilities included an impressive indoor and outdoor vitality pool, saunas, steam room and even a "snowstorm" experience (if you're feeling extra brave!)

On top of this, visitors can also relax in the salt inhalation room – an experience so relaxing that everyone was snoozing within minutes. There is also an outdoor terrace area, which caters for all weather with heated sun loungers, fire pits and luxurious faux-fur throws.

And as if that wasn't enough, you are also assigned your very own "spa butler" to help guide you through the process and keep you hydrated with a tipple of prosecco whenever you so wish.

As for the treatments, we opted for the 60-minute Turkish Ritual Massage. Combining feathers, saffron and silk, this therapy mixes muscle manipulation with gentle stretching. And by the end we were so super relaxed that we didn't want it to end.

After our treatments we retired to our room – which was the perfect combination between modern style and country-chic. We were lucky enough to be given lodge-style accommodation with our very own living room and kitchen to make us feel truly at home.

The food at Ye Olde Bell was also delicious. For lunch we enjoyed salmon and polenta at the spa's Herb Garden Brasserie (which was almost too beautiful to eat!) and for dinner we tucked into crab risotto and a mouth-watering chocolate fondant dessert at the hotel restaurant, 1650.

Our stay at the spa was exactly the countryside retreat that my friend and I needed – a relaxing environment, stunning accommodation and blissful treatments, which makes it ideal for a either a weekend away with the girls or a romantic escape for two.

Access to the spa starts from £55 and overnight packages cost from £149.50pp. Treatments range from £40 for 30 minutes to 120 minutes for £120. For more information check out the Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa's website.

1. Say goodbye to unnecessary chemicals

"Some fragrances and colours are skin irritants and have no actual benefits for the skin - they simply look and smell nice. "According to the research almost two thirds of British women are concerned about the chemicals in their personal care products so my advice would be to avoid unnecessary chemical ingredients and look for shower gels and deodorants that are kinder to skin - such as the Sanex Zero% range which is formulated with 0% colourants, 0% soap and 0% parabens."

2. Avoid low fat diets

"When it comes to holistic health, achieving a healthy balance is really important. Choose healthy fats for healthy cell function – this can be added into your diet through foods such as avocadoes, fish, nuts and seeds and plant oils such as flax and hemp. "Another tip is to ditch the processed margarines. If you're going to have butter then make it organic natural butter which has less synthetic ingredients."

3. Try light exercise

"Getting up and moving daily will boost circulation, and getting your muscles moving will increase your levels of 'happy' hormones or endorphins and blood flow. This in turn will give your skin a lovely healthy glow. "It doesn't matter whether it's a light stroll or training at the gym, as long as you're moving your skin will feel the benefits."

4. Get an early night

"Lack of sleep increases the visible appearance of ageing, such as dark circles caused by sluggish circulation."With that in mind say goodbye to your phone or tablet at least an hour before going to bed and try to get a good night's sleep – your skin will thank you for it."

5. Reduce sugar intake

"A high intake of sugar can cause an inflammatory reaction within the skin resulting in a whole host of skin conditions, from acne and rosacea to premature ageing and dry skin. "A little treat every now and then won't hurt, but try to keep an eye on your sugar levels if you're looking to keep skin healthy."

6. Curb the caffeine

"Too much coffee or caffeinated drinks can put extra stress on the liver and digestive system which impacts your body's natural detoxification process. "This build-up of toxins can have a negative effect on the health of your skin causing issues such as dry skin, redness and sensitivity."

7. Skincare shouldn't stop at your face

"There can often be a temptation to focus on the health of the skin on our faces but we must remember that the whole body is covered in skin which is the largest organ of your body – so we need to make sure we are giving it the care it deserves."Our skin absorbs a percentage of the products we apply, so choose products that are gentle on skin with natural moisturisers."
