FAQs
What is a spa break?
Spa breaks usually consist of one or more nights’ accommodation at a hotel that provides spa treatments and facilities. You can find these breaks throughout the UK, making them a great way to unwind for a weekend. Sometimes these spa breaks come with a package deal that features treatments already included, often with an all-inclusive breakfast and an evening meal. However, we always recommend reading the fine print and preparing for any additional costs that might not be covered, just in case. After all, it's always better to be overprepared than underprepared!
What to look for in a spa break?
If it's the first time you're going on a spa break, Spa Seekers' guide gives you the lowdown, so you know what to expect on your trip. Check out their guide for some must-have spa knowledge - you'll be an expert in no time. Meanwhile, here are some popular facilities to look out on your upcoming spa break:
Facial, body or hair treatments: Whether it's a full-body mud scrub, a facial targeted to your skin concerns or a strengthening hair treatment, many spas offer treatments across the face, body and hair to give you a full pamper.
Beauty treatments: On the same note, some beauty spas offer treatments such as manicures and pedicures, eyebrow and eyelash treatments, waxing and tanning if you're looking to do some self-maintenance during your trip.
Massage treatments: Trained massage therapists will be on board to deliver relaxing massages to help ease any muscle tensions. Choose from full-body massages or an area of your choice that you're comfortable with - like the head, face, hands or feet - for a relaxing session.
Pool or hot tub facilities: Consider hydrotherapy pools, indoor or outdoor pools, heated pools or jacuzzis which will allow your troubles to melt away. If you're an avid swimmer, you might want to get some laps in - but if not, you can still enjoy a low-intensity soak in the hot tub.
Sauna or steam room facilities: Not just good for the skin, saunas and steam rooms will leave you feeling rejuvenated after use. Easing aching muscles and thought to improve immunity, you'll feel utterly detoxed after a sauna or steam room session.
Gym facilities: If you can't stay out of the gym, most spa hotels also include gym facilities. You'll be able to do your regular workout during your stay, and some hotels may even run classes such as pilates or yoga if this interests you.
Where to find the best spa breaks?
If you've read over our list and still don't know where to start, we'd recommend taking a look at sites like Spa Seekers and SpaBreaks.com. These sites filter highly recommended spa hotels near the location of your choice, so it makes things much easier to find a break in a city near you. Other sites like Secret Escapes, LastMinute.com, Wowcher and Virgin Experience Days all have spa break categories and packages to browse where they'll sometimes run deals and offers on unmissable spa experiences, from spa days and spa weekends. And lastly, booking sites such as Expedia and Booking.com give you the chance to check out spa hotels up and down the country. If you've come to the conclusion that a spa break isn't for you, you can always recreate the spa experience from home. Why not try a full-body exfoliating scrub from home, soak your feet in a foot spa, or try out a facial steamer and follow it up with a moistursing face mask for perfect, glowing skin?
