Where do you do your festive food shopping?

I love shopping locally and our wee village in Buckinghamshire has a brilliant fruit and veg shop, which is full of farmers’ produce. I go to our local butcher for the turkey, the fish shop for prawns and the supermarket for cranberry sauce, sweets and Christmas pudding.

What do you eat on Christmas Day?

I eat a chocolate orange for breakfast every Christmas morning. I keep it in the fridge and eat the entire thing myself!

We’ll have blinis with smoked salmon and crème fraiche at around 11am, then our main meal at 4pm. We start with a prawn cocktail, then turkey with all the trimmings. I love parsnips, and we’ll eat carrots, broccoli, chestnuts and roast potatoes cooked in goose fat, too.

My husband Steve tends to do the cooking and my daughter Rosie helps out because she’s a great cook, too. Her boyfriend James and I do the tidying up.

What sweet treats do you have?

We love tucking into Christmas pudding, with whipped cream and lovely vanilla ice cream. We always have crystallised fruits and tons of sweeties on Christmas Day, too.

What’s your tipple on Christmas Day?

I’ll start the day with a Buck’s Fizz, which I sip with my chocolate orange. We’ll also have bubbly, then red wine with our dinner.

Verdict

Nutritionist Juliette Kellow says: “It’s fine to enjoy festive foods high in calories and fat such as cheese, mince pies and chocolate – but make sure Christmas eating only lasts a day or two.

“Prawns, turkey and veg are packed with nutrients. It’s the ingredients we add – mayo to a prawn cocktail, goose fat to roast potatoes – that add to the fat content.”
