Nothing screams summer more than a BBQ on a warm evening. Whether it be in your garden, at the local beach or a campground, nothing beats the smell of all your BBQ favourites being cooked up alfresco. In the UK, we aren't blessed with year-round warm, dry weather, so often we need to leave our BBQ outside due to lack of space in the garage.
However, you can protect your BBQ against the temperamental British weather, dirt, and wear and tear by using a BBQ cover. BBQ covers will make it much easier for you to clean your grill, keep it maintained over the years and will stop any nasty pest or insects from getting in.
If you want to keep your grill in top shape for longer, then we have compiled a list of the best BBQ covers for all brands, sizes and budgets.
BBQ covers: Definitions you should know before buying
Before deciding what BBQ cover is suitable for you, it is good to know what some terms mean. Here are some of the keywords to know so you the specifications on the covers.
Oxford material: This refers to the type of weave used to create the fabric. An Oxford fabric is made with a basket weave that produces a visible texture. It is a fabric made from cotton, from a mixture of elastane or a combination of cotton with polyester. The fabric has a nice smooth surface, and because it is urethane coated, it's waterproof to keep your grill rust-free over the year.
Polyethylene: You may have heard of this term more commonly called a 'tarp' or poly tarp’. This fabric is affordable, durable and waterproof, which is a woven plastic material that creates a watertight, UV and abrasion resistant barrier. The fabric is crinkly and is stiff to the touch, and comes in many different thicknesses to accommodate many applications. Most commonly, a poly tarp is used as a cover.
Ripstop fabric: This fabric has a reinforcing fibre, which is frequently made of nylon, woven within the fabric which is usually visible in a grid-like pattern. The reinforcing fibre improves the tear strength of the fabric and limits the length of which a small tear or hole can get.
PU coating: The PU or Polyurethane coating is fitted to the inside of the fabric to give it waterproof characteristics. This coating influences the strength of the fabric, so a quality PU coating will be as thin as possible to balance fabric strength with waterproof properties and durability.
