Wayne Rooney, who is proud dad to his three adorable sons Kai, six, Klay, three and eight-month-old Kit with wife Coleen Rooney, has admitted that he constantly worries about what his children are subjected to whilst online.
Admitting that because his little ones are still young, he has had no real issues with web use as of yet, but definitely realises that there could be in the future.
Speaking at the launch for the NSPCC's Little Stars campaign, the footballer said: "We’ve never had any problems with online issues, but they are there.
"It’s important as a parent to monitor it even if you’ve put controls in place.”
NSPCC has revealed that they have seen a staggering ‘40% rise’ in ‘serious’ calls about child abuse, with many calls deemed serious enough to take further action by reporting to councils and the police.
NSPCC chief Peter Wanless added: "These figures reveal a nation that is more alive to the issues of child abuse following recent high-profile scandals.
"They have become concerned and aware of the signs of abuse and neglect in children and our helpline is an invaluable service.
"When people are worried, and feel they need to speak to someone, they can and will be listened to."
Wayne’s comments come after wife Coleen took to Twitter to address the present ‘scandal’ surrounding her husband’s football career. Defending Wayne over the treatment he’s been receiving in the press after the torrid amount of abuse he faced during England's World Cup 2018 qualifying matches, she tweeted:
"Love the way Anyone & Everyone has to have an Opinion. Lighten up, life is short, give people a break. Some forget others have feelings too."
Coleen also revealed that her eldest son Kai was upset by the comments made about his dad after he overheard a conversation on the radio whilst travelling in the car.
Coleen insisted that even though they may have millions in the bank and a life many could only dream of, insisting: "He’s not plastic, we’re people."
