Despite his ongoing battle with cancer, King Charles is said to have had a private meeting with David Beckham last week to talk about the King's Foundation. Now, with David keen to secure his much sought-after knighthood, a source tells Closer that Victoria Beckham is ready to take their royal connections to the next level.
It was reported that David, 49, took a trip to King Charles' Highgrove House to discuss charity projects. The former footballer first bonded with the nature-loving monarch after gifting him some homemade honey last year. His visit coincidentally took place around the same time that Prince Harry, 39, also touched down in London to celebrate the anniversary of the Invictus Games. Unlike David however, the Duke of Sussex didn't land any one-on-one time with his dad, 75, who was reportedly too busy to meet.
And with David friendlier than ever with the King, a source reveals that Victoria, 50, is hoping a knighthood is closer than ever.
The source says, "It's no secret that David is desperate to become a Sir, and him sidling up to King Charles shows how much he wants it. He believes it's only a matter of time before he's knighted, and Victoria cannot wait. She's said that she's been waiting her whole life to become Lady Beckham - and she will definitely be using the title!"
"Victoria thinks this will put her on a different path and finally prove that she's still the poshest of the Spice Girls, despite Geri trying to claim the title in recent years. She's already planning what to wear to the Palace when it eventually happens and enjoying the feeling of being distinguished - especially among her American friends."
Far more than simply a title, seeing David finally knighted could do wonders for Brand Beckham. The source adds, "Victoria knows this would give them even more respect in America and help them stand out from all the US stars. It could give them that extra kudos which they think could help them eventually become billionaires. The marketing opportunities would be through the roof."
A knighthood has been a long time coming for David, who has yet to join the likes of footballer Marcus Rashford, 26, and tennis player Emma Raducanu, 21, by landing himself such a sought-after title.
However, the former footballer didn't do himself any favours when he was embroiled in an embarrassing email scandal in 2017. Leaked emails seemed to show David, who currently holds an OBE, branding the Honours Committee "unappreciative c***s," and insisting he "didn't care about being knighted."
He allegedly went on to claim, "It's a disgrace, to be honest, and if I was an American, I would have got something like this 10 years ago." In another email, it was reported that David questioned singer Katherine Jenkins' OBE, writing, "For what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops?" Sources had alleged that David told friends the emails were written "in the heat of the moment." The footballer later denied the allegations, saying some of the emails had been "doctored."
But with the email blunder now in the past, his recent meeting with the King is another step closer to making David and Victoria's dreams a reality. "David knows he played it all wrong last time, so he's been working hard to get it right - including charming Charles," says the source. However, while his bond with the King may be strengthening, his previous close friendship with Harry - Posh and Becks even attended Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018 - is said to have soured.
The once-close couples have drifted apart in recent years. Last year, sources alleged that Meghan suspected that the Beckhams had leaked stories about them to the press, reportedly fracturing any friendship that was left.
Now befriending some of the most senior royals, the source reveals that David isn't afraid to shut the door on his former friendships. The source reveals, "The meeting with Charles was the final nail in the Beckhams' friendship with Harry and Meghan. Victoria is still not over Meghan accusing her of leaking stories to the press, and they were always going to side with proper royalty. They've always been very vocal in their support for Kate and William, and they know they've picked the right team."
With the King on side, Brand Beckham could reach new heights. The source says, "Despite their brand being international, David and Victoria are so proud to be British and they want to show their support for the royals. A knighthood would be the ultimate fairy tale for David - a boy from London finally becoming a Sir and Victoria a Lady."
