She finally broke her silence over husband David’s alleged 2004 affair with his former PA, Rebecca Loos, earlier this month – admitting it was the “unhappiest stage” in their 24-year marriage during their Netflix documentary, Beckham.
And after Victoria Beckham’s comments prompted Rebecca, 46, to take a poll with her 39.2k Instagram followers on whether she should “speak out” or “stay silent” amid claims she “lied” about the affair, insiders say it’s left the fashion designer – aka Posh, 48 – panicked.
A source says, “Posh has been rocked by Rebecca’s cryptic posts and is petrified she’s gearing-up to unleash more bombshells that could potentially destroy not only her marriage, but Brand Beckham.
“Posh thought that finally speaking out would put an end to the chapter once and for all, not prompt Rebecca to retaliate, which has understandably filled her with anxiety over not only what else she could say, but having to re-live the worst chapter of her life.”
The world was shocked when the Dutch-born former glamour model – who was David’s personal assistant during his stint at Real Madrid – claimed she had a four-month affair with the football star in an exclusive tell-all with former tabloid newspaper The News Of The World, which reportedly paid £350k for her story.
While David dismissed the claims that he slept with his former PA four times and exchanged text messages as “ludicrous”, a defiant Rebecca insisted that she would be willing to go to court to defend her claims.
In an interview with Sky TV, she said she had no reason to lie and that she could prove the affair took place.
She said, “There is something I know about him, an intimate part of his body that I think only women who’ve been in bed with him would know.
“I’m not talking about [whether he’s circumcised]. If I do ever need to talk about that, it will be in a court, not on television.”
And despite maintaining their silence over the scandal for almost 20 years, during the fourth episode of their recent Netflix documentary, the former England captain admitted, “It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage.”
The mum-of-four – who shares sons Brooklyn, 24, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 18, and daughter, Harper, 12, with David – said, “I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was. And how it affected me.”
When asked if it was the most difficult time in their marriage, she replied, “A hundred per cent. It was the hardest period for us because it felt like the world was against us. And here’s the thing, we were against each other, if I’m being completely honest.
“Up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else, but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. And that’s sad.”
Following the documentary, Rebecca then shared a cryptic post amid claims she “lied” about the affair.
Sharing a selfie on her Instagram stories alongside a poll to fans, she wrote, “A part of me wants to continue keeping my head down and getting on with my life, the other part of me wants to speak out. What’s your take?”
Sixty-seven per cent voted for Rebecca to speak out, while 33 per cent said she should stay silent.
After shooting to fame at the height of the scandal, Rebecca – who shares two sons, Magnus, 14, and Liam, 10, with husband Sven Christjar Skaiaa – appeared in a string of reality shows including The Farm, Celebrity Love Island and The X Factor: Battle Of The Stars. Despite retreating from the limelight 14 years ago to become a yoga teacher and stay-at-home mum, insiders have previously told Closer that she’s been keen to make a return to the limelight, which has left Posh feeling “physically sick”.
And in the wake of Rebecca’s recent post, insiders say it’s not only left Vic in a state of fresh panic, but it’s caused tension between her and David.
The source says, “Victoria’s anxiety is understandably making her more snappy and on edge than usual and she’s upset that David doesn’t seem to be as concerned as her.
“David admitted that while Rebecca’s post was unnerving, there was nothing more she could say that would carry any weight and insisted she was just looking for an opportunity for her next 10 minutes of fame.
“While she was initially upset that David seemed to be minimising the situation and her feelings, she realised that his lack of fear and refusing to be intimidated was something she needed to try to embrace too – not only for herself but for their children and also for their marriage.
“While she’s still understandably anxious, Vic is determined not to let this tear them apart and, after all the storms they’ve weathered over the past 25 years, she knows that if they have overcome the worst, there’s nothing else that can break them as long as they continue to support one another and stand strong as a unit.”
