It’s been five months since their lavish wedding in April, and while their honeymoon period continues, the relationship between Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham and his parents, Victoria and David Beckham, has never seemed worse.
Last week, in an interview with Grazia USA, Nicola broke her silence on the feud, putting straight the rumours that she had declined Victoria’s offer to design her wedding dress. Nicola said she had spoken to Victoria about making the gown, but then said, “days went by and I didn’t hear anything.” She added, “Victoria called my mom and said her atelier couldn’t make it.”
Brooklyn too spoke out in the interview, saying, “My wife is obviously my first priority and I never want to see her upset ever. We have each other’s back 100 per cent and we just move on together.”
Now sources say that while Victoria, 48, is still “hurt” by Brooklyn, 23, and Nicola’s increasingly distant behaviour, her second eldest son, model and Inter-Miami footballer Romeo, 20, has reassured their mum that her Beckham brood is still as tight-knit as ever, whether Brooklyn wants to be part of it or not.
A source says, “Victoria has been very emotional and proud of the way Romeo has stepped up over the past few months and been there for his mum when she needed him most. They’ve been spending more time together and really bonding. It’s no secret that Vic has been hurt and upset by what’s happened with Brooklyn and Nicola and feels as if she’s lost a son and a best friend.”
Nicola, 27, is said to have been icy towards her mother-in-law since the wedding, after reportedly being left furious when Victoria “hijacked” her first dance with Brooklyn as a “mother and son” moment – not to mention all the dress drama. And while Brooklyn claimed last month that, “Everyone gets along,” he and Nicola have only been seen once with his parents since their big day –during a meal out in Italy in July.
Now the source says Victoria is focusing on Romeo.
The source adds, “Romeo knows a lot of his career is down to who his parents are and he’s grateful for that. The family and Brooklyn used to be so close, but things have changed and it’s made Romeo even more determined to do things differently – and Posh couldn’t be prouder of him.”
