It’s been just three months since Brooklyn Beckhamand Nicola Peltztied the knot in the “showbiz wedding of the year” as the pair said “I do” in front of a star-studded crowd at the Peltz’s multimillion-dollar Palm Beach estate.
And while Victoria and David Beckham appeared to put on a harmonious display with US billionaires Nelson and Claudia Peltz as they celebrated their children’s union during the lavish three-day affair, insiders say cracks have already started to emerge between the Beckhams and 27-year-old Nicola’s mega-rich parents.
And after Nelson, 80, Claudia, 67, and Nicola’s brother, Will, 36, were snapped joining the newlyweds on their Italian honeymoon last week – soaking up the Portofino sunshine on James Packer’s £130 million yacht – pals say it’s further ruffled Posh’s feathers.
A source says, “There’s been a little tension between the Beckham family and the Peltz family brewing for some time, and Victoria can’t help but feel put out, it’s as though Nicola’s family have crossed a line by gate- crashing Brooklyn’s honeymoon.
“She sees it as Nicola’s parents making a power display – as if they can do whatever they like – as both families had agreed to let the newlyweds enjoy their honeymoon together alone.”
In one video, shared by Nicola on her Instagram, her dad is seen giving Brooklyn, 23, a tight hug and kissing him on the head as he says goodnight.
Insiders previously told Closer how Posh, 48, felt pushed aside in the lead-up to her eldest son’s nuptials, after reportedly being left out of much of the planning. They also revealed how the fashion mogul was hurt when her future-daughter-in- law shunned her offer to design her wedding dress – opting for a bespoke Valentino frock instead.
And while husband David, 47, stepped in to mediate, pals say the former footballer has also been upset by the Peltzs.
The source says, “Even David was extremely surprised, as he’s all for letting Brooklyn do his own thing and have his own little family unit with Nicola as husband and wife. But now there are some concerns that Nicola’s family might be calling the shots in their marriage.”
Given the Beckhams and the Peltzs are among the world’s richest and most famous families, it came as no surprise that they have been pitted against each other ever since Brooklyn popped the question to the US billionairess in July 2020.
While the Beckhams are worth a whopping £700 million, their incredible wealth is outshone by the Peltz’s £1.3 billion
fortune and their vast property portfolio, which includes a £70 million Florida estate as well as two private jets and a fleet of helicopters.
The source continues, “Obviously the Beckhams are seen as celebrity royalty in the UK, but sometimes Vic can’t help but feel that the Peltz family are a little stuffy around them and look down on them.
“Nicola’s dad is used to getting what he wants as he’s been an absolute ball- buster throughout his life to accumulate his billions, and it doesn’t look as though he’s really got his head around the fact that his daughter is married now and has her own life.”
Victoria and Brooklyn have always shared a very close relationship, with the mum-of- four – who also has sons Romeo, 19, and Cruz, 17, and 11-year-old daughter Harper, with David – being notoriously protective over her eldest son.
Earlier this year, insiders revealed how the former Spice Girl was considering moving back to the US so she can be closer to Brooklyn – who’s set up home with Nicola in LA – and eventually be a hands-on grandmother.
The source says, “They’re all about him trying to find his feet in the world, whether it’s trying to become a fashion photographer or be a chef, they’ve let him just go for it. But Vic can’t help but feel as though they’re losing their son to the Peltz empire – she can’t bear it.”
To add to Posh’s woes, pals say she’s been left feeling insecure since David’s long-time BFF, Dave Gardner, has emerged back on the party scene following his split from fiancée, Liv Tyler, last year.
Closer previously reported how David and newly single Dave had been planning a boys’ getaway over the summer.
And while they haven’t headed abroad yet, last week the football agent, 45, was snapped with Victoria’s Secret model, Jessica Clarke, 29, in London – reigniting Posh’s fears that he could lead David astray.
The source adds, “Vic has a soft spot for Dave but he has a completely different life to her and David and now he’s back partying with 20-something models, she’s worried about his influence on David.
“He’s assured her she has nothing to worry about – insisting Dave’s a ‘big boy’ and has enough single pals to act as his wing-men. Vic appreciated that, especially given how their focus needs to be on their family, now more than ever.”
