I saw last week that Vicky Pattison said that she didn’t share a bed with her boyfriend, even though they live together, because she’s not on contraception and doesn’t want to get pregnant.
This sparked a bit of a debate with people talking about the importance of sharing a bed with your partner. It’s really important to me! I really love sleeping next to my husband Phil in our bed – it’s our favourite spot.
Phil actually calls me “half mattress, half woman” because of how much I love our bed. It’s our safe place, where we can talk about our days, just us two.
I think it’s really good for our relationship to come together at the end of the day and chat about how we’re feeling – as we often lead separate lives in the day.
We haven’t always spent every night sharing a bed, as Phil is a footballer. When he has an away game he’s not here – or, if he had a game or early start, he used to sleep in the spare room when our boys Rocco, 11, Renz, seven, and Ralphi, four, were young so he didn’t disturb us. I’d really miss him when he wasn’t there.
However, there are definitely times Phil is in bed, and I wish he wasn’t – like when he snores, I’m fuming! But I couldn’t have it any other way.
I do think every relationship is different though, and no one can judge the way others do things. It’s about whatever feels right for you.

‘I was diagnosed with ADHD after lockdown’
I’ve suffered with crippling anxiety for years and it’s something I still struggle with. When lockdown restrictions started lifting recently, I went to a specialist about it, as it’s been so hard to live with during the pandemic.
I explained how I’d been feeling and, within minutes, he said he suspected I had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) – which has symptoms including inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
After doing a test, it showed that I was high on the charts. I was given medication for it to help. I didn’t know much about ADHD, as it’s not really spoken about. I’ve learned a lot since my diagnosis and can recognise the symptoms, like restlessness – I can notice it in other people, too. I definitely feel people need to talk about it more often – it really is so common.
I hope there comes a time when people speak about their mental health issues just as easily as saying, “I’ve got a cold”. There’s nothing to be ashamed of.
