Two weeks ago, Simon Thomas lost his wife Gemma just days after she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.
The Sky Sports presenter announced the tragic news on Twitter but has remained silent ever since, grieving the loss of his wife alongside their eight-year-old son Ethan.
However the TV star built up the courage to speak out for the first time since announcing her untimely death, taking to Twitter to thank his fans and loved ones for their support and kind words.
"Two weeks on since she went," he began.
"I have only been able to read a fraction of the incredible outpouring of love and support for us on here in the painful days that followed.
"One day, with my boy, we will read them. For now, all I can say from the depths of my heart, is thank you."
Simon also tweeted a photograph of Gemma with their son Ethan last week, and has been sharing heartbreaking pictures of his late wife on Instagram since her death.
Gemma passed away at the age of 40 surrounded by family and friends.
Simon announced the tragic news on Twitter, writing, "Today I am crushed with indescribable pain.
"Just three days after falling ill with Acute Myloid Leukaemia, my dear wife Gemma passed away yesterday evening surrounded by her family and friends.
"If you are a prayer - pray for my boy Ethan. 8yrs, precious and in bits. Thank you."
The couple had gone to the doctor together about Gemma's condition three times before she received the devastating diagnosis.
Gemma received chemotherapy and responded well at first, but her condition quickly deteriorated.
Speaking to The Mirror shortly after her death, Simon explained, "For the first couple of days she was responding well, but yesterday morning she went downhill very quickly. She had bleeding on the brain."
"I was told yesterday morning she would be gone in a few hours."
Our thoughts are with Simon and Ethan at this time.
