Coronation Street star Simon Gregson and his wife Emma have sadly revealed they suffered their twelfth miscarriage last year after an ectopic pregnancy which left Emma close to death.

The pair rushed to hospital in September after Emma experienced crippling stomach pains, where doctors told her that she was pregnant but the foetus was growing outside her uterus.

“Up to that point we didn't know I was pregnant so it came as a double blow to us. It was hard to get our heads around what was happening,” she told OK! magazine{ =nofollow}.

Emma had to be rushed into emergency surgery, which left her fearing for her life. “I was petrified. I thought I was never going to see my sons ever again. As they were taking me down to the theatre I just kept thinking I’m going to die – this is it, I’m not going to make it,” she said.

10) The Moment You Left Me

Simon said: "They told me Emma would’ve died if it had been left for a few more hours. She was literally two hours away from death."

The couple have been married since 2010 and are parents to three sons – Alfie, Harry and Henry Teddy. The pair no longer plan to extend their family after Emma’s traumatic experience, despite Emma’s wish for a daughter, with Simon due to undergo a vasectomy.

“I think as Emma has come so close to death, that’s it for us. We originally thought Emma couldn't carry girls, but she so desperately wanted a little girl. I would love her to have one - but now, after nearly losing her, I'm going in and having the snip,” the actor told OK!

With the ectopic pregnancy being the pair’s twelfth miscarriage, Emma revealed that she always feared the worst when becoming pregnant. She said: “Every time I found out I was pregnant, I never felt joyous. I don’t think my mind or body could do it anymore.”

Simon - who has starred in Coronation Street since 1989 - first opened up about his wife's miscarriages in 2017 after his Corrie character Steve McDonald and partner Michelle (played by Kym Marsh) gave birth to a stillborn baby.

Kym also drew from her real-life experience after her son Archie died moments after she gave birth 21 weeks into the pregnancy. She recently paid tribute to Archie on what would have been his ninth birthday.
