Simon Cowell has been rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after an accident at his Malibu home has left him with a broken back.

It’s thought that the music mogul, who also judges The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, was testing an electric bike at the £18million LA mansion he shares with girlfriend Lauren Silverman and their six-year-old son Eric when he fell and sustained the injury.

Simon has lost over 20lbs in the past year after changing his lifestyle following a health scare.

After falling down the stairs at his London home in October 2017, which he blamed his unhealthy lifestyle at the time, the dad-of-one switched to a vegan diet and unveiled a new slimmed down look at last year’s America’s Got Talent auditions.

Speaking about his weight loss to Best magazine, Simon said, “People have said, ‘Oh, he’s had a gastric band fitted’ - but I haven’t. If I had, I would admit to it. This diet is all about what you put into your body. It’s not the Atkins diet or anything else.”

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Simon’s partner Lauren “confronted” his BGT co-star Alesha Dixon over their close relationship.

The pair have been friends since she joined the judging panel in 2010, however an insider revealed how Lauren took the former Misteeq singer aside at the auditions earlier this year after feeling on edge.

"It’s a communal area where crew make teas so it caused quite a reaction when a lot of people were stopped from going in,” a source told The Sun at the time. "About 15 minutes later Alesha emerged looking shaken and had to have a quick glam touch-up and be whisked straight back on set.

"Lauren departed and never returned for the rest of auditions in London or Manchester. Crew members had said Lauren didn’t like the fact Simon and Alesha, who worked together in America on the Champions series, whispered to each other in recording gaps."
