As Alesha Dixon sizzles on screen in the latest series of Britain’s Got Talent she is always perfectly polished, cementing her place as a true fashion star.

And the 36 year-old’s latest looks couldn’t be further from her bold and brash style during her Mis-Teeq days in the late 90s, or her glitzy gowns as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing.

Alesha’s stylist Katie Greengrass – who worked with the star for five years and masterminded her style transformation in 2012 when she defected from Strictly to BGT – reveals it's taken a lot of confidence and determination for her to evolve her latest look.

Katie tells Closer: “BGT was Alesha’s big break and she was dying for a change, she wanted a new identity. The first thing we did was ban sequins, feathers and jewellery – Alesha’s Strictly look was all about the bling. She’d only really been filmed sitting behind a desk and for BGT she wanted to show off her body.

"She needed to secure lots of press attention to stay in the spotlight so we changed her look to something more sexy and grown up. We created mood boards with pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Jennifer Lopez. She was never a designer label girl but as soon as she landed the BGT gig, designers started sending her clothes. She started working with a new make-up artist called Francesca Neill who gave her a fresh look and she either went for made up the lips or eyes but never the two together.”

Another dilemma for Alesha was to co-ordinate and not compete with her co-star Amanda Holden, and Katie says she's pulled it off to perfection.

She says: “Alesha makes her own choices, and she and Amanda have polar opposite styles. They are very different in age and appearance but, like any girls, they always talk to each other first sharing what they’re wearing, and make sure they’re not in the same colour.”

As Alesha starts her fourth series on BGT she's already working with a new stylist, Lauren Schugar- to take her image to the next level.

Katie adds: “Alesha is a few years older now, she’s a mother [to 17-month- old Azura] and now she wants to take on more in the direction of Nicole Scherzinger. Alesha’s looks need to move with the time, and she always will, but the key to her looking so amazing is that she’s always stayed true to who she is.”
