After a hard three weeks down under, Scarlett Moffatt has officially got her hands on the I’m A Celebrity 2016 crown – taking it from last year's winner - fellow Geordie Vicky Pattison!
Scar Mo had already won over legions of fans over the past two years by making sharp observations about TV shows on hit Channel 4 series Gogglebox.
But now the 26-year-old is an outright star in her own right after winning over viewers while surviving bush tucker trials and holding banter round the campfire in the I’m A Celeb jungle.
Scarlett emotionally revealed in tonight's episode that she's doing it for the girls, especially her beloved little sister: "As a kid, this will come as a surprise to you, I’ve always been a bit weird and I wasn’t accepted in a lot of social groups so I feel that if I won I would be showing my little sister that it doesn’t matter you can just be you."
Here are a few of her best moments from Down Under.
1 – Impressive tolerance
Scarlett took on several bush tucker trials over the course of the show – with one of the stand out/gross out moments being when she took part in the Big Bush Bake Off she told her fellow campmates how many disgusting things she managed to swallow.
“I ate two nipples, an anus, a penis, a live beetle, and a fermented egg,” she proudly told the camp.
Our stomach is churning just thinking about that disgusting menu of options…
2 – And more impressive one liners
During that same bush tucker trial, Scarlett proved she was able to make great puns even when faced with nauseating animal parts she would have to eat to win star points.
Faced with a sheeps anus, Scar didn’t even blink during the challenge (Carol Vordeman was also taking part), and said: “It’s just a big meaty hole. Like chewing a polo.”
Those meaty polo’s are all yours, Scar. We will stick with the minty kind.
3 – I’m A Kebab Fan!
Scarlett was joined by Orla Jordan, Jordan Banjo, and Sam Quek for the first trial of the series which saw them entombed in a dark chamber while a variety of bugs, insects and rats rained down upon them. The rule of the show dictate that any star can ask to be removed from a trial but shouting “I’m a celebrity get me out of here!”
The first task looked pretty gruelling, but to get herself through the ordeal Scar shouted “I just want a chicken kebab!” again and again as she thought good thoughts to deal with all the bugs.
Good going, Scarlett!
4 – Home warming
While already fast becoming a true national sweetheart, Scar pulled on all out heartstrings during a camp fire chat with Wayne Bridge and Joel Dommett when she revealed that she used the money she has made since appearing on Gogglebox to pay off her parents’ mortgage.
“I just wrote them a letter and said ‘Thanks for being mint and sorry for leaving fake tan all over the house.’ And then I put a cheque in for them,” she revealed.
Explaining her motive, she added: “That’s the dream. Everyone wants to be able to look after their mum and dad like they did when you were younger.”
What a sweetie!
5 – Scarlett vs Martin
Ok, so maybe this isn’t a ‘best moment’ as such, but it would be unfair to overlook a confrontation on the show that some viewers saw as controversial. After Martin Roberts and Danny Baker arrived in the jungle as late entries, things turned a little awkward as the former Homes Under the Hammer star and the Googlebox queen clashed. There were tears from both sides and some viewers branded Scarlett a bully. While things eventually calmed down in the jungle, Scarlett’s parents defended her.
“As someone who has been bullied herself when she was younger, I think she would be absolutely mortified if she thought people were saying she was a bully,” mum Elisabeth said after the backlash.
“Scarlett does say daft stuff and lacks common sense but she’s not someone to tear other people down,” she added.
6 – Upbeat attitude
Many would freak out over the conditions and trials thrown at them during the course of I’m A Celeb, but Scarlett never seemed to get too flustered – always keeping upbeat.
One of the funniest moments in the show was when Larry Lamb and the brunette were sent on a canoeing mission. Scarlett was not the best at learning how to row her boat, but laughed her way through it – whether her fake tan withstood the water task or not.
7 – Natures scent
Perhaps being at one with nature went to Scarlett’s head – or at least, her nostrils?
“Oh it smells nice in there,” she announced as she stepped out of the communal camp toilet at the end of the second week of jungle life.
A rather embarrassed Ola Jordan then confessed “I’ve just done a poo” – expressing surprise that Scar thought the bathroom smelled good.
Unfussed, Scarlett then continued: “It smells really nice – do you poo butterflies, Ola?”
And with that, we have a mental image no one ever asked for.
8 – Back to basics
Ola’s butterfly behaviour wasn’t the only stool related incident of the series as Sam Quek explained that squatting is “the natural way to poo.”
Astonished, Scar demanded to know more – and Larry Lamb was more than happy to go into detail.
“If you’re squatting like that, that is how you’re supposed to poo. It opens up you bowels,” he said.
The Gogglebox star then felt compelled to discuss the revelation further as she went to the Bush Telegraph to declare: “I’ve been pooing for 26 years of my life and all this time I thought I was doing it right. Who would’ve thought I’d come to the jungle and learn hot to have a c**p?”
Well, we guess you really do learn something new every day.
9 – Scientific ambitions
The Gogglebox star does, by her own mother’s admission, occasionally say some “daft stuff”. But her theory on time travel seemed to impress Lisa Snowden.
Revealing she had once ‘emailed’ Stephen Hawking, the star explained a theory she has connecting time travel, the speed of lights, and the Egyptian pyramids.
She hypothesised that to travel through time, an explorer would need to be able to travel faster than the speed of light – then stating that the “latitude of the top of the pyramids” correlates to the speed of light.
“Someone from the future realised we’d need them in the future, so went back in time and built the pyramids. And that’s why no one knows what technology was used to build them,” she suggested.
Astonished, Lisa then asked if Scarlett had been successful in communicating with the noted professor Hawking.
“Well I was trying to find his email address but it was a Hotmail account so I’m not sure it was real,” she admitted.
10 – All round nice lady
That run in with Martin aside, Scarlett provided a welcome ear to the other camp mates’ problems. She comforted Larry Lamb when he broke down over Jordan Banjo’s elimination. She bonded with Wayne Bridge over a shared sense of insecurity. And she provided plenty of laughs for all the campmates throughout her time on the show.
Is it any wonder she was a favourite on the show from the early days of the competition? Scarlett just seems like the kind of girl everyone wants to have as a best friend.
