Pregnant Rachel Adedeji furiously slams smokers outside hospital, calling for them to be fined

Rachel Adedeji has launched into an angry rant at people she spotted smoking outside a hospital and slammed security staff for failing to stop them.

The Hollyoaks actress, who announced she was expecting in August, expressed her outrage on social media after going for a check-up at Liverpool Women’s hospital ahead of her due date on December 27.

The area around the hospital is no-smoking and rules state that people should not smoke outside the building’s entrance.

An outraged Rachel tweeted: “Annoying when I go to @LiverpoolWomens for a check up and see people smoking at the entrance. People should respect the hospital grounds for what it is - A NON SMOKING GROUND.”

The former X Factor contestant added that she had reported her sighting to members of the security team but they didn’t appear to have a sense of urgency on the matter.

Rachel wrote: “These people should be fined instantly! Yet when reported, security are just chilling watching football.”

The star added to the Liverpool Echo that expectant mothers should not have to inhale the smoke from other people’s cigarettes because they are being thoughtless.

She said: “I don’t judge anyone who smokes - I’ve got loads of relatives who smoke - but there’s a time and a place. We’re outside a hospital solely for pregnant women and their babies, we’re not outside a club.

“This isn’t me being a ranty non-smoker, I’ve spoken to a lot of people who feel the same way and the other day I witnessed a man having to waft smoke away from a car seat which he’d brought to pick up his newborn. He shouldn’t have to worry about that on such a happy day for him.

“They are right at the entrance of the hospital. It is a two or three minute walk from the entrance to the car park to the hospital doors but instead they smoke right outside the entrance even though there are about seven signs warning them not to and pregnant women - and women with babies - are forced to walk through it just to get to their appointments.”

Rachel even said that on previous visits she’d seen heavily pregnant women smoking outside.

Many of the singer’s Twitter followers messaged her with words of support, with one person responding: “Rachel, I work for the Ambulance Service and see this all the time. It isn’t policed so people get away with it. It’s very annoying.”

Another person wrote: “This happens at most hospitals - maybe start some sort of petition to bring in a punishment for this? Definitely a worthwhile idea?”

And another follower replied: “What’s worse is everyone carrying out newborn babies and their first ever breath of air outside the hospital walls is a nicotine cloud. It infuriates me and is wrong. I wrote to my local trust’s PALS about it and was completely fobbed off.”
