Michelle Heaton: ‘Don’t feel guilty for having holidays away from your children’

Michelle Heaton has defended parents who holiday without their children, telling mums and dads that they should ‘try not to feel guilty’ about having alone time.

Writing in her online blog ahead of her romantic getaway to Las Vegas, the mum-of-two addressed the issue of parents holidaying without young children.

Michelle wrote: “This time next week I will be writing my blog from my Las Vegas hotel. I actually can not wait. It is a much-needed five-day break with my husband: time to relax, eat lots of fattening food, drink (responsibly) and shop until we drop.

“It's very well-deserved but does flag up the debate as to whether parents should holiday without their kids.”

The former Liberty X added: “As you all know, I’m a massive supporter of alone time. Whether it’s a few nights away a year, a couple of long weekends or a short holiday.”

Michelle then encouraged other parents to ensure that they have some ‘alone time’ away from their children, explaining that she feels it’s valuable to have time as a couple as long as your children are left in safe hands.

“Whatever you allow yourselves, take it, enjoy it and try not to feel guilty. The main thing is to ensure your kids are looked after by capable and loving people. I've said it a million times before and I will keep saying it – happy marriage = happy home = happy kids.”
