Mel B has posted on Instagram to congratulate Nicole Kidman on her touching speech on domestic violence during the Emmy awards last night – and to encourage fans that they “are not alone”

Following a series of domestic violence allegations, Mel and estranged husband Stephen Belafonte split back in March - and she has spoken out very little since on social media regarding the issue.

But last night, the star took to her Instagram page to congratulate Hollywood star Nicole Kidman for highlighting the issue of domestic abuse in her Emmy award acceptance speech.

Nicole won the award for ‘Best Actress’ for her role in Sky Atlantic’s hit series Big Little Lies – in which she plays the role of Celeste, a victim of domestic abuse.

Mel B posted an image of Nicole giving her speech, captioning it “We are not alone remember that,"the light is shined" again thanks to @nicolekidman at the @televisionacadand always has been,so pls trust and believe, you don't have to be a victim no more, you do have the power and support to stand up to this, leave all your shame and pain with your abuser,if not the "Diablo" WILL kill you #domesticviolencesurvivor #domesticviolenceawareness #womenempoweringwomen #biglittlelies”.

Kidman said that the series had “shone a light on the complicated, insidious disease” of domestic violence. She continued; "It exists far more than we allow ourselves to know. It is filled with shame, secrecy and, by you acknowledging me with this award, it shines a light on it even more.'

Scary Spice filed for a divorce from Stephen earlier this year, following almost ten years of marriage to the film producer.

She was then granted a restraining order following alleging that he had been both physically and mentally abuse towards her during their relationship; accusations that Belafonte denies. There have since been reports that Mel has a new boyfriend, a police officer from Beverly Hills.
