We already know that Emily Blunt will be starring as Mary Poppins in the new movie but E! news have reported that the original Mary Poppins – Julie Andrews - and Chimney Sweeper – Dick Van Dyke - may be appearing in the second movie.

The pair featured in the first movie back in 1964 and Julie won five awards for her role as the super nanny. She won:

  • Academy Award for Best Actress

  • BAFTA Award for Most Promising New Comer to Leading Film Roles

  • Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy

  • Grammy Award for Best Album for Children

  • Golden Laurel Award for Best Female Musical Performance

We would LOVE to see the pair reunited however a rep for Julie said there's been "no discussions" about the 80-year-old returning to the big screen.

We're remaining hopeful though.

And they're not the only actors who are rumoured to be joining the cast. We already know that Emily Blunt will appear alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda as her lamplighter friend.

But The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ben Whishaw (who starred in James Bond as Q) is in "negotiations" to join the cast. We may also see The Devil Wears Prada's Meryl Streep in the movie as The Wrap reported that she is in early negotiations to star in the film.

We LOVE Meryl Streep and hope we see her and Emily reunite after they both starred in the movie Into the Woods.

The second instalment of Mary Poppins is set to begin 25 years after the original film - during Depresion-era London.

And even though Jane and Michael are all grown up, a Disney spokesman said: "Through her [Mary Poppins] unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives."

We cannot wait for the movie to be released on Christmas Day in 2018.
