Holly Willoughby has expressed her fears for her nine-year-old son Harry, amid the terrifying Momo Challenge that’s been sweeping social media

The ‘game’ has been linked to the suicides of several children, including a 12-year-old girl in Argentina and reported deaths in Columbia and India.

As the craze threatens to hit UK shores, This Morning dedicated a segment of yesterday’s show to discussing the dangers, which is when Holly shared her fears for Harry.

“Harry is nine so he watches things on YouTube,” she told clinical psychologist Anna Colton.

“I’ve been aware of this because I’ve seen it in the press but I didn’t quite understand how it works and how it just pops up on these things so it’s there all the time. Do I draw his attention to it? Do I mention it to him? I don’t know, I’m a mum. I don’t know what to do.

“The worrying thing is, with something like Momo, it’s spread by fear. If I went home tonight and said to Harry, ‘There’s this thing called Momo…’ is he then going to go to school tomorrow and say, ‘Have you heard about Momo?’”

Reports say that the ‘game’ infiltrates popular children’s platforms like YouTube, Whatsapp and Snapchat, with a haunting doll-like avatar sending violent and distressing imagery and threats.

The ‘challenge’, supposedly created by hackers in South America, encourages kids to perform increasingly dangerous tasks, ultimately ending in self harm and even suicide.

However, there’s yet to be any recorded footage of the challenge and some experts are doubting it’s authenticity.

According to a report by The Guardian, “These stories being highly publicised and starting a panic means vulnerable people get to know about it and that creates a risk.”

“Currently we’re not aware of any verified evidence in this country or beyond linking Momo to suicide,” said a Samaritans spokesperson. “What’s more important is parents and people who work with children concentrate on broad online safety guidelines."
