Online trolls have targeted Giovanna yet again, but she’s not letting them get to her
Body-shaming trolls are back with a vengeance, taunting Giovanna Fletcher with cruel comments about her post-baby body. The online abuse comes after the mum-of-two's appearance on Loose Women.
Appearing alongside husband Tom Fletcher, who bravely opened up about his secret eating disorder after being labelled ‘the fat one’ in McFly, Giovanna was attacked by online trolls judging her on her appearance.
Giovanna spoke to OK!, explaining that she had since read numerous cruel comments following her TV appearance, saying she looked “smug” and “frumpy”.
“I’ve got a post-bump body and I’m just trying to wear outfits that don’t make me look pregnant still, or that I feel good in, so I was a bit bummed,” Giovanna revealed.
The proud mum explained:
“It’s difficult, but I had to just say ‘who is that person?’ Their opinion doesn’t actually affect me at all. I don’t have an opinion on them, so therefore they shouldn’t have an opinion on me.”
She continued that it's a “shame that people feel that they have to judge others.”
In February, only 11 days had passed since she gave birth to her second child with Tom, and Giovanna was already being criticised for not having lost her baby bump.
Following this, the brunette beauty admitted that she was in shock, taking to Instagram to share her feelings with a picture of herself, captioned:
“A few days ago I had a near stranger point at my stomach, laugh and say, 'Oh look, Mummy's still got her tummy'. This was eleven days after giving birth. I was so shocked I laughed. But the words have stuck with me. Obviously. It wasn't left there either as there was another comment about my face 'slimming down’.”
She continued: “More than anything, I was baffled over the stranger's need to share her thoughts...
“Yes, I still have a bump. But that bump kept my little baby boy safe for a whole nine months. That bump has filled my world with even more love and light than I knew possible. That bump is a miracle worker... My bump will slowly go over time, but I'll never stop being thankful to it and my body for everything it's given me.”
Her supportive husband, Tom Fletcher, took to his Facebook page to praise his wife, saying: “So proud of my beautiful wife Giovanna Fletcher for sharing this. I loved her bump when our boys were in it and I love it now!
“There's so much pressure on women to rapidly get their bodies back to ‘normal’ post-birth and careless comments, whether meaning to cause offence or not, can be so damaging and impactful.
“We should all, men and women, support and applaud mums for what they have endured through pregnancy, labour AND after. Whether natural birth, c-section, in a pool, at home, in a hospital, whatever, wherever...mums, you're amazing - bumps and all!”
The couple has been together since they were teenagers, and recently celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary together.
We think it’s great to see they are so supportive of one another, and how adorable they are with their two boys, Buzz and Buddy. Rest assured, we all think you look fabulous, Giovanna!
