Giovanna Fletcher is a talented author and blogger, as well as a devoted mother to her two boys, Buzz and Buddy.

So, when a stranger body-shamed her just 11 days after the birth of her second child, the talented wordsmith took to Instagram to pen an empowering message about boy acceptance.

At the time, she explained: “A few days ago I had a near stranger point at my stomach, laugh and say 'Oh look, Mummy's still got her tummy'. This was eleven days after giving birth.

“I was so shocked I laughed. But the words have stuck with me. Obviously. It wasn't left there either as there was another comment about my face 'slimming down’.”

She continued: “More than anything, I was baffled over the stranger's need to share her thoughts...

“Yes, I still have a bump. But that bump kept my little baby boy safe for a whole nine months. That bump has filled my world with even more love and light than I knew possible.

“That bump is a miracle worker... [and it] will slowly go over time, but I'll never stop being thankful to it and my body for everything it's given me.”

Now, sitting down with Reveal, she has opened up about how the incident truly made her feel.

Giovanna said: “At the time I was in shock. That's what made me post and share the picture.

"I was having a moment of 'alright, my body's changed, I've had two children, of course it has, but actually, it's absolutely amazing!'"

She went on to admit: "But being pregnant and then a new mum is a roller coaster. Some days you feel grateful, other days you feel rubbish.

"So if that comment had been said to me two weeks later, it could have been horrific and I might not have been able to cope."

Her proud husband Tom Fletcher, who will be accompanying Giovanna on ITV’s Loose Women later today, added his own response to the body-shaming incident on his Facebook page.

The McFly frontman wrote: “So proud of my beautiful wife Giovanna Fletcher for sharing this. I loved her bump when our boys were in it and I love it now!

“There's so much pressure on women to rapidly get their bodies back to ‘normal’ post-birth and careless comments, whether meaning to cause offence or not, can be so damaging and impactful.

“We should all, men and women, support and applaud mums for what they have endured through pregnancy, labour AND after. Whether natural birth, c-section, in a pool, at home, in a hospital, whatever, wherever...mums, you're amazing - bumps and all!”

It’s amazing to see that the duo, who have been together since they were teenagers, are as strong a team as ever.

Especially as Giovanna recently admitted to The Sun that parenthood has been one of the biggest challenges that she and Tom have ever faced as a couple.

She said: “It's the toughest test in life, let alone in a relationship. You're feeling emotions you've never felt before.

“One minute I'm like: ‘I’m on top of this parenting thing!’ then half an hour later it's: ‘Oh god, I don't know what to do!’”

She added that sex has been put on the back burner for now, saying: “It's not a top priority. Sleep is better!

“Tom and I love each other and I think we're both on the same page. That's how we got into this mess!”

So does that mean we’ll never hear the pitter patter of little feet from Tom and Gio again?

Well, not quite.

While there are no firm plans for baby number three, Giovanna - who is currently promoting her new book ‘Always With Love’ - has said that she will take each day as it comes.

She finished firmly: “I’m not thinking: ‘Let's go for the girl,’ and we're not set on a number.

“We'll just do whatever we feel like.”
