She had hoped the drama surrounding her husband Christian’s texting scandal was over, but after news emerged that the woman involved has filed an appeal over the previous investigation and an official complaint, pals say Spice Girl Geri Horner is panicking that it could all end up in a court battle.
“This is obviously the last thing Geri wants. She is standing by her man, but they are both under a huge amount of pressure – and with this new complaint being filed, she’s struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” reveals an insider.
“In this day and age, it feels as though you never know what is around the corner, with people coming out of the woodwork and making all sorts of claims. She is worried that Christian is being targeted, especially because he is in such a high-profile position.”
Geri found herself in the centre of the storm when the unnamed woman alleged that the former racing driver had engaged in “inappropriate and controlling behaviour”. After being cleared by an internal Red Bull investigation at the end of February, some suggestive messages and photos reportedly sent by Christian were leaked.
After denying the allegations in a statement at the beginning of March, the motorsport executive was then seen hand-in-hand with supportive Geri while attending the recent Bahrain Grand Prix.
But now the woman has reportedly filed a complaint with the ethics committee of the FIA, the governing body for world motorsport. The accuser has also been said to have made an appeal to Red Bull over their earlier decision to clear Christian of misconduct.
And reports have suggested that if this matter can’t be cleared amicably behind closed doors, there’s a good chance it could end up in a tribunal court case, which would mean the full extent of the claims would be made public.
“Geri has said to pals that God forbid this goes to court, she will be there by Christian’s side to testify as a character witness,” our source continues. “Geri and Christian are a team – he dotes on Geri’s daughter Bluebell, and they’re committed parents to their son, Monty. Geri has long put family first after spending decades achieving all her career goals as a performer. What matters most to her now is having a secure unit for her family, and she’s doing everything she can to make sure it stays secure.”
Geri and Christian first crossed paths at 2009’s Monaco Grand Prix, however romance didn’t blossom until five years later. In 2014, Christian split from Beverley Allen six months after the birth of their daughter Olivia, now 10, before striking up a romance with Geri.
After tying the knot in 2015, Christian and Geri – who shares daughter Bluebell with her ex, Sacha Gervasi, 58 – welcomed their son Montague “Monty” Horner, now seven. Since then, Geri’s life has become a far cry from her Ginger Spice days. Ditching her trademark Union Jack dress for a more classic wardrobe. Geri has also shocked fans over the years with the Watford-born singer seemingly having adopted a posher twang to her accent.
In 2019, a similar sentiment was echoed by fellow Spice Girl Mel B, who described Geri as being "all posh with her country house and her husband”.
Now the source says that it isn’t only her family Geri hopes to save, but her lavish lifestyle too. The source says, “Geri wants to support Christian not just because she loves him, but because she wants him to keep his job. She is used to a certain lifestyle, they both are, and neither of them want that taken away. It’s in their best interest to play happy families, even if it isn’t quite an accurate picture.
“She’s spent years rebuilding her brand as the real ‘Posh’ one from the Spice Girls, and now she’s worried it’s going down the pan. She’s shocked and scared about the whole thing, as well as the fact that they haven’t been able to put a stop to it. But Geri is a fighter, and she’s going to do everything she can to help Christian. She doesn’t want them to lose what they have – they enjoy the life they have, and she can’t help but feel she’s helped him achieve some of his recent success. She’s trying to see this as a stormy patch that they have to soldier through – the reality is, she doesn’t know if this is just the tip of the iceberg.”
