Ferne McCann: ‘I’ve met someone… I want another baby’

Ferne McCann opens up about being a single mother to her daughter Sunday, meeting a new man and her hopes for more babies

She hit the headlines last week, with reports she’d been spoken to by police after allegedly throwing a drink at Love Island’s Adam Collard after a row at the NTAs.

And as we chat to Ferne McCann the following afternoon, she remains tight-lipped about the reported incident with Adam.

The 28 year old may have been famed for her outspoken reputation on TOWIE, but she says she’s a different person to the one portrayed during her time on the reality show.

She says, "Who I was on TOWIE and who I am now are two completely different people. TOWIE was scripted reality and drama was heightened and encouraged.

"A lot of that change has to do with maturing and growing older. So much has happened to me in recent years and I feel I’ve become more of an adult.

Ferne says becoming a single mum to daughter Sunday has resulted in her biggest transformation. The star – who was recently pictured looking trim and toned in a bikini as she enjoyed a holiday in Dubai with Sunday – says, "I have to watch what I say around Sunday because she’s repeating so much now.

"It’s so important to be her role model – especially as I’m a single mum. I want to raise a strong woman who stands up for herself and I want her to look up to me."

Ferne split from Sunday’s father Arthur Collins during her pregnancy after he was arrested for a horrific acid attack in an East London nightclub – for which he was later sentenced to 20 years.

And though she’s happy to put her life on camera for her reality show, First Time Mum, she insists she’ll explain the ordeal to Sunday one day, away from the spotlight.

She says, "I like to show reality on my show and the good times and bad. I want people to see me as genuine. But when I have to have that conversation with Sunday and explain certain things, it will be a private thing."

She adds, “I’ve been through a lot and things have happened that were out of my control. But the experiences have shaped me. I’m at a stage of my life now where I know who my real friends are and who I want to spend time with. I was a bit lost in my early 20s, but now my life’s changed in so many positive ways.”

She’s largely remained single since becoming a first-time mum – enjoying a brief romance with a mystery older man and a date night with Love Island’s Charlie Brake.

But Ferne – who’s transformed her body since giving birth through a healthy diet and regular exercise – tells Closer she’s back on the dating scene and has met someone she likes, teasing about a possible budding romance with a mystery celebrity.

She says, “My first year of motherhood was focusing on Sunday. But now I feel ready to dip my toe back in the dating pool and
I’ve been talking to a few people here and there. There’s been a flirtation with another celebrity – whose identity I’ll keep a secret
– but I’m hoping that goes somewhere. I’m being asked out on dates and I’m enjoying it.”

And with her former I’m A Celeb! co-star Vicky Pattison single – after splitting from fiancé John Noble in December – Ferne says she’s got a lot of fun nights out planned.

‘I’m enjoying being asked out on dates’

But despite enjoying single life, Ferne admits she sometimes questions whether she’ll find Mr Right and is eager for more children.

She says it can “tug on her heartstrings” when she spends time with her loved-up pals – including former co-star Mario Falcone, who welcomed son Parker with fiancée Becky Miesner in November.

She explains, “Because I’m a single mum, I can’t imagine having a baby with a partner. I’m so used to doing this on my own. But
I’d love to experience having a baby with someone. You do sometimes question whether you’ll meet that right person. Spending time with my friends like Mario can tug on the heart.”

She adds, “I try not to worry too much about the future. I want to just focus on Sunday and be happy. In five years’ time though, I’d love to be in a big house with
a nice man and more children. Oh, and a garden full of chickens! That’s the dream.”
